Do you use a mirror when you throw?

elizebeth433 July 29, 2010 at 1:37 am

Thanks for the help!

monkeybss July 29, 2010 at 2:07 am

This was amazing! You are a great “thrower”! I’ll try right now to throw something similar but if I’ll fail (which is almost certain) I won’t feel too bad.

To be honest, personally the larger the pot the softer the clay for me as It’s impossible to lift a large amount of hard clay.
Having said that, softer clay isn’t as strong,so basically you’ve just got to try different softnesses and see what suits you best.
Cheers,Dan

I’ve atarted using the wheel in my art class and was wondering how moist the clay had to be. I noticed you shaped it with ease. Your tips will be appreciated!

We use loads of different glazes.
Our main 2 glazes though tend to be more gloss or shiney the higher they are fired : I.E if they’re in a hotter or cooler part of the kiln they’re more shiney or matt depending on where they are.
It’s a bit of a lottery really.LOL !

Dan what sort of Glaze do you use satin or gloss?
I am fighting with my gloss glsze at the min and I think it is winning LOL but hopfully I will get sorted I am nearly there.

You make it look so easy. That would take me 1/2 hour to make if I could even make anything that big! Love your pots

im excited to see some of your videos up again, nice shape dan, i really like your vases, i also wanna comment on how much control of the clay you have for how fast you have the wheel moving, i really admire that, and your slip designs or so nice but very simple, thanks for the upload
