@luvpottery I don’t see why not so long as you don’t sit it on anything flammable like a wooden deck and you have it far enough away from the house.
Cheers.

Dan- I have watched all of your videos, and have attempted the double cylinder and your lid method- thanks for the help! I have a question about kilns- would you know if you can keep a gas kiln out doors on a deck? I’m concerned about ventilation and breathing in chemicals.

I have a few questions for you Dan.
1. Approximately how much did the clay weigh when you threw in on the wheel?
2. How tall are these pieces that you show?
3. How hard is the clay that you threw these amphoras with?
Thanks :)

How do you get you handles to attach so well? When I try to attach my handles, they always slide off and droops down…

I use slip to attach it… Should I let my handles dry for awhile?

adamhendrickson77 June 20, 2010 at 10:22 pm

Yeah, what clay are you using? It seems way easy to handle!

JeunFost June 20, 2010 at 10:46 pm

I’m a big fan of your work, but I really think you’ve outdone yourself with this one. Great job.

tmarci June 21, 2010 at 3:11 am

@Tokidoki4Me Hi, at my read if you are right handed the wheel turns counter clockwise, and clockwise if you are left handed. :)

aussieinkorea June 21, 2010 at 3:29 am

Hi Dan,
Did you have much water in the bottom of these pots. You do like the water, have you tried a profile tool while you are making the pot to smooth it out. Also have you tried pulling a handle off the pot, it could make for a smoother transistion from pot to handle plus it would be faster. I’m more with you than against you, keep up the great work.

Arexeum June 21, 2010 at 3:31 am

He may have used a sodium silicate + water solution, also called “magic water”…help mend cracks too.

CatherinePoloynis June 21, 2010 at 5:22 am

WOW….the day I can do that, I’ll call myself a potter! I would like to be able to replicate all of the Greek pottery vessels. Thank you for the inspiration.

jstluv92 June 21, 2010 at 5:59 am

did he just glue the handles on there?

darkempressdomain June 21, 2010 at 6:29 am

Nice job! I’m trying to make these handles in class now! awesome…great job

buddahdawg June 21, 2010 at 7:25 am

what do you use as an adhesive for your joints? I noticed you don’t score the pot or the handle, is the way you are doing it just as efficient, and strong?
