Vermeer's paintings are characterized by a masterful use of light. We believe its unique effects created by a camera obscura which produces a target halos early, around light sources and an exaggerated view, shown in the painting of the Virgin of the Madonna and a gentleman. He used fresh palette of predominantly blue, yellow and gray, the transparency effect is achieved by applying paint with a key free combination of enamel, as seen in women with a jug of water.
Little is known about Vermeer's life. We know not what they seemed, because he never painted a self portrait. There is a manuscript of his unique role, and that his birth, marriage and death survived. Vermeer's life is a shadow that can be glimpsed through his art is ephemeral.
We know that his father was a silk weaver and art dealer, and probably introduced Jan Vermeer. Vermeer himself was an isolated figure, both in life and history art, his teacher is unknown and had no pupils, but is activated in the Delft painters' guild.
Today, Vermeer is one of the most admired painters of the Netherlands Netherlands, but at the time was a small circle of clients, half of all his works were acquired by Pieter van Ruijven, a local collector. There was tables very few? only 35 or 36 paintings attributed to him. After his death, his works have been virtually forgotten for almost two hundred years.
Catharina bolna Vermeer married in 1653 in a civil marriage in the city of Delft, which was Catholic and five years older than him. Vermeer converted to Catholicism for her. Catharina family was wealthy and the couple has lived in his mother's house where Vermeer spent the rest of his life. The couple had fourteen children.
The high prices of his paintings received Vermeer has supported his family and he thinks he has also been active as an art dealer. He joined the Brotherhood of St. Luke in Delft and was elected President in 1662, showing that he was highly respected by his peers. But in 1672 the French invaded the Netherlands, collapsed economy and businesses as a merchant Vermeer art and artist, was ruined. He was forced to borrow money to support his family, his last years were miserable.
Johannes Vermeer died in 1675 at age forty-three. He left behind a wife and eleven children. Catherine was left with huge debts and in 1676 asked the city council to take over the farm, to pay. Twenty-one paintings by Vermeer were sold in the guild, March 15, 1677. They were purchased by local collectors, who were locked in their homes. Vermeer was forgotten until the art critic Thore Burger discovers the View of Delft, and was so impressed that he spent twenty years of his life to discover that Vermeer was. It was through Vermeer what is now considered one of the greatest masters of 17th century Dutch.
