Vegetables that grow well in pots in a desert climate?
I live in the High Desert, California. I have some hanging baskets, planters and some other stands (I had to find a way of being because rabbits like flowers in the desert baby, that's what I grew last year). The area is full sun all day. I have another place to put plants, but I'd like to try growing some vegetables this year. I prefer to start with seedlings from a nursery.
Good neighbor, you should not be so distant. I live in the high desert of Nevada. Like you, I am fighting the rabbits and the hot sun. I grew up in the plant containers almost 8 years. I love it. There are much easier to dig. I keep my lettuce. (romaine lettuce and other leaves) in a half wine barrel in my backyard. I use these varieties, they simply choose the outer leaves and leave the center to continue its growth. I My cherry tomatoes in a hanging basket called Topsy Turvey wonderful little invention. Me like variety and 100 due to sweet taste and high performance for a plant so small. My peas are my bean trellis trained as climbing. My pepper plants to love sewing the half barrels I also like strawberries. To keep the heat of the sun out of my tender plants in the summer, I use a network to provide shade for them. Wrap a piece 2 feet to suit the shape of the circumference of the barrel and wrapping the top. This allows light, but retains some shade in the heat of the day. You also should keep the pots watered more because it seems to dry faster. Make sure you have good drainage. That's why I like wine barrels. Drain well. If you have a patio with a ramp to make some very good now Platters network can grow herbs in this year's attempt. Good luck to you
